ACCESSOREYES

Have you noticed how popular glasses are? Not just sunglasses and clear eyewear, but beyond the lens and frame. Eye glasses are now a popular medium of art and pop-culture in prints on clothing, jewelry, cases... the list goes on! It's a revolution the awareness of eye protection is on the rise thanks to global warming and the availability of merchandise. Let's face it- they're in your face from the gas station to the dollar tree, from the grocery store magazines to the mall! Eyewear is Everywhere!

The inflation of these products is Astounding  and it makes me sick to my stomach! Just today I was Browsing on Etsy (...and when i say browsing I mean drowning in an online flea-market of heavenly goodness!) and all of a sudden I came across a regular fabric case selling for $15.50 when I know for a fact that very same case sells for a little over a dollar. It was also, listed as a vintage item when clearly it was Not! I had to report it as the seller was claiming to be a "certified vintage seller" honest mistake? Or, Huge mark up!? This is an industry where there is a potential income.

I LOVE GLASSES.

Since I was a kid I have always thought glasses were Way more than a medical necessity, but a fashion accessory and facial jewelry! I love how a frame can transform someone's natural features, offering a new Look or a variety of new and improved styles. I love that eyewear improves people's outlook on the world... Literally! The eyewear industry has come a long way in lens technology and frame fashion/functions, and shows no signs of slowing down. It's a fun field of work, constantly evolving but also, sticking to many old skool principles. I meet a lot of interesting people all different ages and backgrounds. Think about some people you know or people in your family... Now, think about how many of them wear prescription glasses and/or sunglasses. Chances are... Most of them do! I wish Everyone would wear sunglasses, however, sometimes ignorance is bliss~ Sunglasses are not only preventative toward many eye diseases but help reduce distracting glare and reflection. They can also help cover up some bags after a fun night out!

REVAMPED RETRO

Retro is IN!
I can't tell you how many young adults come into the office requesting Big, Bold and Black eye-wear! They want to make a statement with their glasses. I see kids walking around the mall wearing fake glasses for fun! Why? Because, glasses are COOL! There I said it-
The eye-wear industry has come a long way in recent years offering a variety of shapes, colors and sizes and styles available. However with that being said, Kids these days know what they want. They want that iconic frame that they see on TV or in the movies. You know, That One. Well I'm not about to name drop, or give you style codes. But i can tell you that the media has a way of getting into these digital-friendly generation's minds, and practically telling them what's cool.
On the contrary, I have found some adults also want to delve into these retro styles. Some of them put on a frame and say, "Wow, i look like my mom/dad!" or "OMG this reminds me of 5th grade!" (why is it always 5th grade? Was it That traumatizing) Some people embrace it by bringing that retro style back with Vengeance! They want that Cat eye, horn rimmed, Buddy Holly, Clark Kent Look. I salute you for being brave and going against the norm. After all, the styles Do change from year to year, so stick with what works for you.
I have had some people come in with Authentic Vintage frames, You know, back when eye-wear was actually made in America!? 50 years later the frame is still in good condition! You can find Vintage frames at Antique shops and second hand stores, but be careful Most are Not Rx-able. Our office recently picked up a collection of Authentic retro frames by Bucci Sunglasses. They are classic shapes and styles that are unique and hard to come by! That one frame your mom wore back in 1990 is now available!  Many new frame designers are creating a separate line designated to highlight these backdated styles. These styles are classic and not going away anytime soon! I love these retro styles and look forward to many more revamped designs!

SUN PROTECTION

Did you know that more people in the US purchase more  non-prescription sunglasses than people who purchase Contact lenses and Rx eye-wear combined!? That's a lot of people! Most people who buy sunglasses are focused on how they look, when really, they should be concerned about the coverage and protection in which the lens and frame can provide.
Fashion can play a key-role in the purchase of these frames... with all the designers and knock-off-designers out there it's hard to resist the haute temptations! There are an endless amount of styles and frame materials which can be used from metal, titanium, stainless steel  plastics, optyl ect. From aviators to wrap around... the most important factor is, guess what!? The lenses! Obviously what I want, is for people to have spectacular vision all day, everyday. For most people over the age of 40 +/- they know that having vision is crucial to maintaining daily sanity.
Whether it be prescription or non-prescription sun-wear, be conscious of  your lens decision. Look for Polarized lenses with impact resistant materials. Polarized reduces glare and reflection from surfaces such as: Water, sand, grass, concrete, windows and snow. Some manufacturers have even patented their lens materials to endure a series of impacting drop-ball tests to comply with ANSI (American National Standards Institute) safety standards. Durability and visual clarity are key components  in a good set of lenses.
Remember, when choosing a good set of lenses Please, don't think that the darker the lens the better, Actually if a lens is too dark it can have a reverse effect by dilating the pupil allowing more light to come in! Always look for the sticker on the lens certifying that the lenses are protected against  UVA & UVB.
Have a Beautiful day!

Social Networking Project For school Final

~THIS IS FOR A SCHOOL PROJECT~

#1. FACEBOOK
I personally have a Facebook for myself as well as the business I work for. I think that the Facebook is a great free tool for small businesses to advertise. You can easily reach friends, customers and locals within the comfort of their home, computer and mobile device. I try to post at least once a day without being Too annoying or "Spam-like." One thing you have to be cautious of is to keep your personal life separate from the business page. However, i personally post many pictures of myself wearing eye-wear from our business and attract a good amount of people that way as well. It's all about being professional & fun!

*Drawbacks:
  •  Not everyone is on Facebook.
  • People think of Facebook of more a social network.
  • Some people are anti-Facebook and have a negative connotation to it.
  • People who are on Facebook don't check it everyday.
  • Some people are on Facebook don't interact with it.

#2. BLOG
Having a company blog in which people can subscribe to via email. I subscribe to a couple of company's blogs. It's a great way to communicate with your customers in a friendly manner without being to pushy upon selling something. I think it's more of a way to get good feedback and also, post your personal opinion. People can then write comments to your posts and feel like they have a better relationship with the blogger. It's user friendly, and eye catching, easy to navigate and view pictures. It creates loyalty with users because they look forward to future posts.

*Drawbacks:
  • People don't check their e-mail everyday.
  • Some people think of a daily blog as Spam.
  • If the person doesn't keep the blog up-to-date, it can get boring.

10 Things I didn't know about paid ad inclusions
  1. There are 3 different ad inclusions called organic, natural and editorial.
  2. Google Shopping used to be called Froogle.
  3. Microsoft, ask.com and yahoo all have paid inclusion programs, and now Google.
  4. The US Federal Trade Commission has specific guidelines for paid inclusions.
  5.  Paid inclusions make money for search engines.
  6. paid inclusions cost less than advertising.
  7. There is a difference between paid inclusion and paid placement.
  8. The difference between paid inclusion ads and paid placed ads are: the inclusions are massed together all being paid for and the paid placed ads are intermingled among paid and most viewed ads.
  9. Google denies having paid inclusions when really they do , they just call it by another name.
  10. Search engines are making big money by catering to corporate big companies who have lots of money to literally buy their way up to the top.

EYEWEAR ENVY

I am an Optician who fits and dispenses prescription eye wear- in other words, I'm really like a personal eye wear stylist! I always say: "You wear your glasses on your face- so what do you want your frame to say about you?"
